INTRODUCTION

The Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN). The bill which established it was passed into Law by the National Assembly and assented to by President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR), before it was finally published in the Federal Republic of Nigeria official Gazette as ‘’the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (Establishment) ACT, no. 3 of 2018, with gazette no. 15, Vol. 105.

The Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN) is the only statutory regulating agency in Nigeria, responsible for licensing, accrediting, professionalising, regulating and standardising project management processes and procedures for all the practitioners (Individuals and Organisations) in Nigeria. Our supervising ministry is the Federal Ministry of INDUSTRY, TRADE, AND INVESTMENT.

CIPMN MANDATE

  • Licensing and Regulation: CIPMN is authorized to license all project management practitioners in Nigeria both individuals and companies (Section 21(1d – 1e)) and withdraw licenses if necessary (Section 21(1f)).
  • Practice Restrictions: The Act prohibits practice by non-registered members (Section 19(2)) and restricts non-registered members from holding project management roles (Section 14(9)).
  • Educational Oversight: CIPMN is mandated to accredit institutions offering project management courses (Section 16(2)).
  • International Practitioners: The Act requires foreign professionals in Nigeria to register with CIPMN within 12 months (Section 14(8)).
  • Supervisory Role: CIPMN is responsible for the supervision, regulation, and training of project management bodies and practitioners (Section 21(1b)).

Company Clearance and Project Management Office (PMO) Setup

As part of the clearance process, CIPMN will support companies to set up their PMO process. Support will include:

  1. Templates for Project Governance
  2. Free advisory as regards project delivery
  3. Support with the provision of skilled, vetted, and licensed Project Managers when needed.
  4. Display of clearance status on the CIPMN’s website which will aid with marketing.
  5. Support with the provision of skilled, vetted, and trusted subject matter experts to help with project delivery.
  6. Support with advertising company services.
