The Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria is a regulatory agency, under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment. The Institute is an establishment Act of no. 3 of 2018, Gazette No. 15, Vol. 105; and signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, with the mandate to regulate, supervise, license, certify and withdraw licenses of project managers in Nigeria. The Institute also perform all above mandates on individuals, institutions and companies. In January 2022, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria appointed a Sole-Administrator to run the affairs of the Institute, with three sets of mandates, to put in place processes, procedures, and structures; to amend the Act that established the Institute, and to conduct an election for a new council for the Institute.
These processes and procedures have given birth to a new CIPMN system, that has evolved the Institute to cater to the aspirations and professionality of practitioners in Nigeria. In February 2023, a New Council was constituted and emerged to supersede the affairs of the Institute, with a set vision to institutionalize project management in Nigeria.
